Sri Lanka – Tropical Island in the Indian Ocean

Our Route
Our journey took us for several weeks along the west coast down to the far south: from Negombo near Colombo to Ambalangoda, Hikkaduwa, Galle and Unawatuna, then on through Mirissa to Dikwella, Hiriketiya and Nilwella, and finally from Tangalle to the beach at Rekawa. Along the way, we took a multi-day trip into the Sinharaja rainforest.
Tropical Plant Richness
Sri Lanka is home to an impressive variety of plant species. Exploring the diverse flora of this island means immersing yourself in a world full of colors and scents. The Sinharaja Rainforest, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is a true paradise for nature lovers. Here, numerous endemic plant species grow that cannot be found anywhere else in the world. Trees over 40 meters tall, fish-rich rivers, several waterfalls and dense vegetation characterize this ancient forest.

Diverse Landscapes
Sri Lanka’s landscape is varied and breathtakingly beautiful. From idyllic beaches to lush rainforests and impressive mountain ranges, the country offers countless opportunities for nature lovers to explore. It is one of the few places where such a rich variety of habitats and biodiversity can be experienced on a single island.
Cuisine & Hospitality
Sri Lanka’s cuisine thrives on a rich variety of spices: cinnamon, cardamom, turmeric, curry leaves and chili give the dishes their distinctive aroma. The combination of intense spices and fresh ingredients can turn any meal into a real flavor adventure. Anyone who wants to truly experience Sri Lanka should not only explore the sights but, above all, engage in conversations with the locals, as they are the heart and soul of this fascinating country. They are friendly, helpful and eager to share their culture with visitors.

Abundant Wildlife
The island is known not only for its stunning beaches but also for its rich fauna. Thanks to its varied landscapes, ranging from dense rainforests to expansive savanna-like grasslands and pristine coastal areas, it is home to many fascinating animal species found nowhere else.
